beatlematt I don’t really know why I love this album so much but I do return to it very often. I remember buying the album on the strength of only hearing, “Make It Mean Something” and I have never regretted the gamble. In the early 2000’s, I bought an analog to digital recorder and recorded my vinyl copy to digital disc so I could have it on my iPod since the album could not be found anywhere else. Now I no longer have to hope and search. Behold! The digital upgrade has arrived! Favorite track: Make It Mean Something.

johnrieb I was a young Music Director in Rock Radio in the 80s, who unlike many, listened to everything, and wasnt afraid to play it. We played 4 or 5 tracks from this LP and got great response. Still have it on vinyl. Happy I am able to download the digital version! Thank You ROB! Favorite track: See That Girl.

greg_b Was stationed outside of Memphis until mid-86. Played drums with a few guys in the area. Not sure when I bought the cassette. Hadn't seen it for 20 yrs. Found it this afternoon. "Memphis Thing" STILL gives me goosebumps. Kit is setup in the basement and my wife says "go for it". Favorite track: Memphis Thing.

Gregg Alley I have owned "Closer To The Flame" on cassette since it was released way back in 1986. This has been my most-wanted album on CD for more than 20 years, and now I have it as a lossless download! Favorite track: Boystown.

Hot Breakfast! Chose "Boystown" as my favorite track, but I could have picked "Memphis Thing," "Back to 17," "See That Girl," or damn near anything. I stupidly let go of my vinyl edition of Closer to the Flame - I'm so happy to hear it again. What a killer record - soulful, wise, boyish, romantic, and timeless. Favorite track: Boystown.

Memphis Thing The boys in the garage bands The boys playing in the bars They’re buying up the old Farfisas They’re strapping on guitars They’re turning back the pages They’re looking up the facts Praying at the altar of rhythm and blues Bowing down in the church of Stax It’s a Memphis Thing It’s a Memphis Groove Thing It’s a Memphis Thing It’s a Memphis Groove Thing Turn on the TV in this town Seems like yesterday On the screen was a ten piece band In shades and gold lame’ DJ introduced them Spotlight hit the floor The lead singer stepped out In a rhinestone cape And a ten inch pompadour Mercy Drummer lays down the backbeat Bass man makes sure that you can feel it in your feet Guitar player makes it shake and sweat And the singer sings it to you like a man possessed I cannot explain it Cannot tell you how Honey, it’s something you’ll never know If you don’t know by now London give you accent L.A. give you gold New York give you attitude But Memphis gives you soul

Rob Jungklas Memphis, Tennessee

It seems that Jung Klas a man of extremes who have emotions and soul torments rush through blood and nerves as music. Sometimes he sounds like a lost soul or like a wounded animal that wants to shake his skin. Away from him
